History
During the decades on the turn of the century numerous artists, scientists, technicians, programmers, hackers, makers and entrepreneurs joined and stired up the joyful play, bold enterprise and visionary experiment of this Groningen Avant Garde scene. Unfortunately this website can not manage to mention all of the participants but all who were there know who made it all happen! Pivot people in this scene were Nathalie Beekman and Thuur Caris. This website is a shared portfolio of both.
Pavlov Mediaproductions 1991 – 2001
Palvov mediaproductions was a Groningen based media production company that produced videos, websites and mediatised events during the 90-ties. Numerous filmmakers, media artists, programmers and production crewmembers of the Groningen area took part in these productions but the company was consistently artistically led by Nathalie Beekman (script / director) and Thuur Caris (concept / music).
Pavlov mediaproduction received several awards for their corporate video productions. Their independent film productions were shown at festivals like the international filmfestival in Rotterdam and Bamrose festival in New York. Pavlov medialab also supported the first internet broadcast of the ESNS festival in the Netherlands.
Pavlov Medialab 2001 – 2008
In 1999 the new media pioneers of Pavlov mediaproductions initiated MIG (Media Initiative Groningen) a society of artists, producers and programmers working in new media and technology. As a result a business space and incubator for media companies and start ups was established in Groningen known as “the Pudding Factory”.
Within this facility the collective continued as the Pavlov medialab, an experimental media art institution, again artistically led by Nathalie Beekman and Thuur Caris. Producing several media events and performances the medialab researched new media and its effects on society, culture, art and specifically public space.
Pavlov E-lab 2008 – 2012
